I chose the Zen Bakery way. A whopping 13g of fiber in each tiny little blueberry bran cake. That beats your dumb Metamucil anyday. WARNING: These bran cakes can be fast acting!

I can't reach that Zen Bakery! Of course I'd take such a cake over Metamucil any day of the week.

Now that you mention it, I remember growing up our parents (and thus we, too) went through this crazy bran muffin era... bran muffins every day, and always via the same recipe called "6 Month Bran Muffins" or some such thing... I think the idea was the batter, to be used at the height of it's flavor, should be stored in the fridge for 6 months. Yes, we had such a tub in our fridge, but I don't know if the batter really sat around for 6 months at a time, more likely 6 days at a time the way our dad tore through those muffins!

The way Dad tore through them? I don't know about you, but I had one of those muffins in my lunch on a daily basis, for the better part of a year... It was quite an embarassing time, for me, and my school friends had a good laugh at my expense, daily, about those bricks...

The worst thing about them was, they picked up odors from the fridge as they sat... On occasion, I would get one that tasted like cardboard and raisins, but smelled a bit like onion...

Matt, I think you're right about the batter being stored in the fridge for up to six months... That's how I remember it, too...
